This is different for every person. Some people can learn surrounded by a week and start making their own websites that are as excellent as a pros. Most people can probably a month or longer, if they really try. I suggest learning everything fully step by step, before trying to make huge complicated websites, though. Go for it!

There are many languages to do web programming in – HTML, JavaScript, Java, CGI, PERL, the .NET framework languages (VB.NET, C#, J#, ADO.NET, ASP.NET), etc. To learn every web programming language is nearly impossible. you should narrow your criteria – what you want to do with it, then find languages that meet the criteria you have specified.

In a way, you’ll by no means *fully* learn and *master* it, as it keeps evolving (note previous answerers, names of languages, and note that new languages and methods keep popping up). Visit, for example, www.webmasterworld.com and see that even those of high standing keep asking each other how best to do a thing in web design. If you really push at it, you may be able to design a presentable and functional website in as small as ten minutes ( world ) but it depends on *your* definition of “fully learn and master”

fjpoblam has it about right. What he left out was this: any schmuck can learn to code, but not everyone can DESIGN. If you have small or no design skills, become a web developer. If you have a creative flair, become a designer (or, like most of us who do it for a living….do both).
