Question by : What are some good basic retouchings in photoshop???
how can i improve my picture a little more in photoshop?? any tips or retouchings to make it look professional?

Best answer:

Answer by Picture Taker
Two quick things to do are adjust the white and black points with either levels or curves. Levels is easier to understand, so open the levels dialog and you will see the histogram. Move the right slider until it lines up with the right end of the histogram. Move the left slider so that it ends up with the left end of the histogram. Hit “OK” and check it out. You can even try “auto” in the levels dialog to see if you like the result.

The other thing is to apply some sharpening with the unsharp mask or by using the high pass filter. I like the high pass filter better. See: http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/3339071478/ For a good DSLR image, I use 0.3-0.5 pixel radius to avoid overdoing it. A point and shoot will need more. I find that you can go to 1.0-2.0 a lot of times with a P&S image.

Best answer:

Answer by hostmysite.com
A Joomla template is basically already in HTML/CSS format. All you need to get is view the stylesheet and then copy one of the pages of the Joomla pages.

You will see a line in the Joomla page similar to this which has the CSS:

Web design is an amazingly versatile? business around the globe and some try and do it on their own, other will simply hire a business to do it, but why is it so popular? I will tell you…
Websites are a gateway to consumers, they allow your customers to interact with your business without the need of any personnal, or effort, in fact your website can even be your biggest advantage!
So you have decided you want a web pagee, but now what? The first road to evaluate is a good website design company, obviously I am going to propose my site, Baker Designs (Link at the end) but it is totally up to you. Take a look at the packages on my site and look at the deals on the design page. Web design companies are a better way to get a website than to gain knowledge of all the code yourself, and is, in most cases, it costs less then hiring a web designer on contract.
OK, so you have got to this paragraph, which means that you are going to stick it out to try and learn some basic rules, tips and tricks about web designing yourself.
To get going with you need to look at a language called HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language). This is what your web browser (Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome etc.) will read at first and this code will command the layout of the page, links to various pages or sites and the text on the page. A website can be made from 100% HTML if you want, however if you have ever seen one of these, they do not look very smart. This is because there are not numerous styling commands in the HTML code, by this I mean colours, fonts, background images etc. Please don’t get me wrong, all of this CAN be achieved by HTML but it is not very proficient and there is a better way…
CSS. Cascading Style Sheet. It does what it says on the tin. It styles your page. It is a lot more efficient then styling with HTML and is a fairly easy code to learn. CSS essentially tells your browser how to present the HTML. For example if the HTML tag was”

          ]]>

Hello

” which would be displayed as “Hello”. A basic paragraph tag. Now to modify the way the hello looks we use CSS. The first thing to do is to say to the style sheet what we want to target. In this case the “

” tag. So we write “P(open curly bracket here)” Now inside the curly brackets we can add things that will adjust the way the text looks. Commands like “font-size:16px;”. At the end of the list of commands we close up the curly brackets.
Of course if you don’t want all your paragraphs to look the same there is a way…
Putting a “.” In front of any name will tell CSS that it is not to style the HTML tag with that name, but it is to look for a HTML tag with that “Class Name”. I will demonstrate: “

Hello

“. The CSS for this would be: “.hellotext(Open curly) font-size:16px;(Close Curly)” just to change the font size.

Learning web based promotional advertising can only be considered second nature because one needs to learn the simple necessities of building a completely functional web-site before it can be promoted. Understanding computer programming languages can be kept to a minimum. It is not required to learn them all, nor in-depth. The basics will be sufficient for the regular on-line business owner.

There are three that should be considered and they are HTML, CSS, and PHP. People typically cringe when they hear computer programming and shy away from what is a necessary part of the business. Computer programming is considered a tool of the trade and should be given huge respect because it is the main foundation to a successful web based business.

CSS is a computer programming language that provides style to your website, everything from distinctive colors, images, margins, and borders. Think of CSS as make-up for your web page. Sure, web sites could exist without much styling or customization but then the online world would be extremely dull. Don’t presuppose that CSS is something you’ll never need. Trust me, there’s nothing worse than having quality web site content shrouded by a shoddy, horrible layout and design.

Colors are represented in the CSS language through special sets of what are known as color codes. You may well not have realized it, but you have almost certainly come across these codes at some point in your internet travels. For those that don’t understand CSS, do a search on the net for CSS color code finder/picker.

Now that you understand the colors, let’s find out a bit more about the layout structure. Next to HTML, CSS is may be the next simplest language to learn and understand. In a short period of time you can learn a sizable percentage of the language. For those that need help, do a search on CSS primers and introductions for beginners.

After learning HTML and CSS, you can have enough knowledge to develop a web page that looks and functions ultimately as you would like. In fact, if you’re in a position to test out some code on a website, do so. The best way to learn both HTML and CSS is by actually doing it in daily situations.

Once you feel that you have mastered both, ask yourself: “Do I Understand”?

CSS color codes, the overall CSS syntax (layout structure), the basics of headers and footers, how CSS can be combined with HTML and the types of things that can be done with the combinations.

Once you have accomplished these 2 programming languages, it can be time to move on to the next and that being PHP. There are other languages such as Java, Perl, and Python for examples, but PHP probably is the most commonly used.

You don’t need to understand every programming language, but you need to be familiar with the basics of the most common ones. Learn the names of the best ones and then try and discover which one is best suited for specific tasks. As you learn, take the significant things that standout the most and put them close, such as your desktop. This will let you to locate the information more readily for future needs.

Learning the basics of various computer programming languages is vital for a business owner. Not only is it cost efficient, but can allow for creativeness in a timely manner and help in the design of a completely functional web-site.

Once the basic languages have been understood, it is possible for the business owner to move on to the next level. Understanding web design will aid the business owner on many different levels such as the development of web pages to promotional advertising strategies which will eventually create more traffic to a business.

Cascading Style Sheets-CSS in short-is the most hottest word in web page design world, it basically give you creative control over the layout and design of your web pages, by using CSS, you can dress up your text with eye-catching headings, drop caps, and borders, just like the those you see in magazines or newspapers.

What’s more, you can also create columns and banners, highlight those text links of your choice as well as arrange images with precision.

If you’ve used styles in word processing programs like Microsoft Word or page layout programs like Adobe, CSS is nothing alien to you. A style is simply a set of rules instruct the computer how to format a particular portion of a web page. A style sheet is a set of these styles.

CSS works well with HTML, but you don’t confuse with HTML, CSS is not HTML, it’s a different language altogether. In short, CSS works hand-in-hand with the web browser to make HTML look great.

If you are old enough to surfed the web before 1995, then you will aware those website without CSS, as web designers were limited to the layout and styling options of HTML. HTML still forms the foundation of all pages on the World Wide Web, but it’s simply not a design tool. Sure, HTML provides basic formatting options for text, images, tables, and other web page elements, and patient, meticulous webmasters can make pages look pretty good using only HTML. But the result is often sluggish web pages laden with clunky code.

So with CSS, the benefits are obvious:-

Style sheets offer far more formatting choices than HTML. With CSS, you can format paragraphs as they appear in a magazine or newspaper (the first line indented and no space between each paragraph, for example) and control the leading (the space between lines of type in a paragraph).
When you use CSS to add a background image to a page, you get to decide whether and how it tiles (repeats). HTML can’t even begin to do that.
Even better, CSS styles take up much less space than HTML’s formatting options, such as the much-hated tag. You can usually trim a lot of kilobytes from text-heavy web pages using CSS. As a result, your pages look great and load faster.

Style sheets also make updating your site easier. You can collect all of your styles into a single external style sheet that’s linked to every page in your site. In short, you can completely change the appearance of a site just by editing a single style sheet.

Software for CSS

To create web pages made up of HTML and CSS, you only require a basic text editor like Notepad for Windows or Text Edit for Mac. But of course, there are other better programs written solely for web pages deisgn. So some of the commonly used free or paid programs are: -

jEdit (Windows, Mac, Linux) – This free, Java-based text editor works on almost any computer and includes many features that you’d find in commercial text editors, like syntax highlighting for CSS.
HTML-Kit (Windows). This powerful HTML/XHTML editor includes lots of useful features like the ability to preview a web page directly in the program (so you don’t have to switch back and forth between browser and editor), shortcuts for adding HTML tags, and a lot more. By the way, this is also free.
skEdit (Mac) – This is the most expensive web page editor I even find. However, this program come with complete FTP/SFTP, code hints, and other useful features.
Coda (Mac) – This is a full-featured web development toolkit. It includes a text editor, page preview, FTP/SFTP, and graphic CSS-creating tools for creating CSS.

In Summary, whether you are programmers or internet surfers, CSS is definitely change the ways you design and read any of the web pages now and future. Hence, it is always good for you to know the basic understanding of CSS.

In every design there are basic rules to consider. For a web design, here are a few of the rules which you can take or break for your projects.

1 > Viewers do not want to scroll horizontally.

As a personal experience, I find it really annoying to have to scroll the page to the right just to be able to read the whole content of the page. People should not be put to the task of having to pick their mouse and move the web page over to the right so as to see what’s hiding over there.

It’s easier to scroll down a page than to scroll horizontally. One designer suggests checking out your web pages at resolutions of 640 x 480, 800 x 600, and 1024 x 768 to avoid scrolling the page to your right. It doesn’t matter that the majority of monitors nowadays come preset at 800 x 600. You never know when one of your audiences would have a monitor with the lowest denominator, and then have that potential client go to a competitor just because he or she also hates scrolling to the right.

2 > Have more than three screenfuls of information… not.

Having to scroll horizontally for the rest of the information is annoying, but it is also not fun either to have to scroll down the page forever just to be able to get the whole information.

The rule: one web page shouldn’t require a viewer to page down more than three screens. Of it is more than that then you better go back to the drawing board and re-design your screens.

But you should also consider that people will definitely scroll if the content is king. As one designer puts it, “You just need to balance content and nuisance factor with having to click through on links.”

3 > One web page should weigh in at no more than 50k.

If all of us would be able to obey the rules what a wonderful world this would be. But we should also be considerate of the fact that there are gray areas. Nothing is quite cut and dried. It would be lovely to have a web page that doesn’t take so long to download. It only takes about seven seconds to make a good first impression on the web.

However, there are times when you really need to put those large graphics and images. This is especially true for photographers. They need to have large pictures and photos in their pages to be able to convince viewers of their capabilities. Just a word of advice: do not bloat your web pages unnecessarily. It is still better to have viewers tinkering on your site than to have them go to another just because it takes a hundred years to download your pages.

4 > Do not force your viewers to download plug-ins.

This is another thing that bugs me aside from the scrolling horizontally. And that is to download a plug-in so that I’ll be able to view whatever it is I would like to view.

True, plug-ins can give that extra “wow!” to your interactive website. But always remember that not everybody have plug-ins although we’re in the advanced technology age. To accommodate everyone of your potential clients, think about creating an HTML alternative.
