Most Web design certification programs are pointless.

Most graphic design schools can teach you Flash and HTML, as well as many technological / convergence colleges.

I’ve by no means heard of a master’s degree in HTML or Flash and such a thing would be a waste of money, if it did exist.

The only Masters degrees that would mean anything are MFA (which is terrific overkill) and MCS (comp sci). Web programming is computer programming – it’s just the productivity format of the program (and a few other minor details) that’s different. (With Web 2.0, a web page is becoming a lot more like a desktop app.) Take a programming course – not a programming LANGUAGE course – computer programming – algorithms and data structures, classes, inheritance, etc. In fact, if the course uses Wirth’s “Algorithms”, you can expect to be taught properly. After that, learning languages is nearly trivial. (How hard is it to learn cardiac surgery in French if you already know it in English? Contrast that with learning French to be a cardiac surgeon – without first learning cardiac surgery.)
